Centre Promotes Made-in-India Navigation App ‘Mappls’ with Smart Features and Real-Time Alerts

In a move to strengthen India’s technological independence, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has endorsed Mappls, a Made-in-India smart navigation app developed by MapmyIndia. The app is positioned as a strong indigenous alternative to global mapping services, offering advanced navigation tools tailored to Indian users and road conditions.
The ministry highlighted that Mappls integrates 3D junction views, real-time traffic alerts, and AI-powered route optimization, making travel safer and more efficient. Users can access detailed information about road closures, speed limits, and points of interest, all within an intuitive interface.
Developed entirely in India, Mappls leverages high-precision satellite data and ground mapping to provide accurate directions, traffic density insights, and real-time updates on diversions or hazards. The app’s offline navigation feature ensures uninterrupted usability even in remote regions with poor internet connectivity.
Officials from MeitY emphasized that promoting indigenous digital products like Mappls aligns with the “Digital India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives. By supporting homegrown innovation, the government aims to enhance national data security, reduce reliance on foreign platforms, and encourage local developers to create global-grade solutions.
Rohan Verma, CEO and Executive Director of MapmyIndia, expressed gratitude for the government’s recognition, stating that Mappls is designed to offer “safer, smarter, and self-reliant navigation” to every Indian. He added that the app’s continuous updates and AI integration will redefine digital mobility in the country.
The Ministry’s backing of Mappls is seen as a significant step toward promoting indigenous technology, encouraging Indian users to choose local solutions for everyday digital needs.
